Fast, Safe Tree Removal for Villa Rica Homeowners

Villa Rica, known locally as the "City of Gold" for its 1830s gold-mining history, is one of the fastest-growing communities in our service area — new subdivisions around Mirror Lake and the I-20 corridor sit alongside older, established in-town streets.

Villa Rica is about 13 miles west of Douglasville on I-20, which crosses the south side of the city at exits 24 and 26. The city sits in two counties, slightly more than half in Carroll and the rest in Douglas, and the 2020 Census counted 16,970 residents. Gold turned up soon after the first wagons arrived in 1826; the city's Pine Mountain Gold Museum at Stockmar Park, open since 2008, keeps that story.

Trees & Weather

New Lots and Old Oaks in Villa Rica

Grading for a new subdivision often cuts roots on the trees left standing, and many yards around Mirror Lake and along the I-20 corridor sit in newer subdivisions. Those trees can look healthy for years and then start to lean after a soaking rain. The older streets near downtown carry mature oaks with far more deadwood. We look at the two differently: root damage and lean on the newer lots, decay and dead limbs on the older ones.

Our Tree Removal Service in Villa Rica

Typical Villa Rica jobs include pines left too close to a new house, oaks over the roofs of older homes near downtown, and edge-of-town lots that need brush and small trees cleared before a fence or a shop goes in. Because the city is split between Carroll and Douglas counties, we confirm which side your address falls on, since county services and some rules differ.

Permits

Villa Rica's Tree Permit Rules

Villa Rica rewrote its development standards in November 2023. Under them, a tree-removal permit comes with land disturbance, so one tree on an established lot usually doesn't need one, but cutting a tree that did need a permit without getting it can bring a stop-work order and fines of up to $1,000 a day. Specimen trees start at 28 inches for overstory hardwoods and 30 inches for pines, and street shade trees need the adjacent owners' permission before anyone touches them.
